North
Carolina
is a land of natural contrasts, from the white beaches of the Outer
Banks to the ancient peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains. Sandwiched between
the two are the gentle hills of the Heartland. In the spring the state is
ablaze with flowers and in the autumn the mountains are spectacular with the
colours of the fall foliage. The long flat pristine beaches attracts crowds in the summer for activities and relaxation. All along the coastline there are sandy beaches and friendly seaside resorts. Wilmington is North Carolina's largest coastal city and is packed with history. A thriving film industry is located in the area where productions such as 'Dawson's Creek' are made. Inland, the Sandhills area draws golfers to dozens of courses in world famous Pinehurst resort and there are more than 600 golf courses throughout the state. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a laid back city filled with Art Deco buildings. Nearby is the Biltmore Estate where George Vanderbilt's 255 room mansion is the largest private house in the country. The Cherokee Indian Reservation is to the west and stunning views surround the Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic byway that extends for 252 miles. |
