Charleston, founded in 1670, is a contemporary city with old world charm.  The narrow streets are lined with grand colonial houses, and the magnificent mansions of 'The Battery' look out onto Fort Sumter, site of the first shots of the Civil War.  The resort islands of Kiawah Island and Hilton Head provide luxury beach holidays and world-class golf.
